The All Women’s Cardiac Health Center is a 19,400 square feet project that would be part of a multi-million dollar state-of-the-art medical facility located in San Mateo, California that is recognized as one of the best in the nation. The design employs evidence based design for healing environments and sustainability strategies as well as construction and building codes guidelines to develop a design worthy of this facility.
In healthcare design it's important to apply evidence based design principles and knowledge. The design for the All Women’s Cardiac Health Center reflects those principles in the space layout, providing a "comfortable work-flow", as well as in the selection of appropriate materials and furniture that can withstand the durability and maintenance needs of a healthcare environment. Sustainability strategies are applied in the lighting plan, where all selected fixtures are LED and the lighting power density (LPD) is on average less than 1watt per square foot.
- Galaxy: Defined as a large system of stars held together by mutual gravitation.
- The concept is inspired by how the staff at the medical center comes together to work as a system in order to provide superior medical services.
- Design principles & elements applied: harmony, balance, shape, color & light, space and mass.
